Leonardo DiCaprio’s Alleged Attacker Ordered to Stand Trial

The 40-year-old woman that allegedly hit actor Leonardo DiCaprio with a broken beer bottle at a party back in 2005 is facing criminal charges over the incident five years later. BBC News reports that a Los Angeles judge ordered last week that the suspect Aretha Wilson must stand trial . The suspect, who was extradited from Canada, now faces a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon

At Least 10 People Facing Charges From L.A Laker Victory Riots

Chants of celebration echoed throughout the Los Angeles area last week after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. However, those chants quickly turned into riots, leading to at least 42 arrests in the area last Thursday on suspicion of crimes that included arson, assault on a peace officer, battery, public drunkenness, resisting arrest, vandalism, and disturbing the peace. The Los Angeles Times reported that as of Monday, 10 people were being charged with crimes by the City Attorney’s Office .

Mike Tyson and Tony Echeverria Avoid Battery Charges

It looks as though neither boxer Mike Tyson nor paparazzi photographer Tony Echeverria will be in need of their Los Angeles criminal defense attorneys with the start of this new year. The Los Angeles city attorney’s office decided not to charge Tyson and Echeverria after their brawl at the Los Angeles International Airport last November, due to “insufficient evidence.” “We took a look at the evidence and concluded that there was insufficient evidence that either party was at fault beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Frank Mateljan, spokesman for the city attorney’s office in the Los Angeles Times . “It didn’t rise to the level of filing a charge.” The fight between Tyson and Echeverria gained a lot of media attention last November immediately after the incident occurred

Another South Los Angeles Murder Case

The murder case of Dae’von Bailey, a six year old who was beaten to death last summer, was finally wrapped up in Compton Superior Court this week. Marcas Catrell Fisher, 36, pleaded guilty to a first degree murder charge. On Tuesday December 15, Fisher was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Prosecutors agreed to drop the second charge against Fisher, which was a count of assault of a child causing death, in exchange for his plea to the murder charge
